Who hasn’t played the Gioco dell’Oca (Game of the Goose)? This version, presented in Cagli, is anything but ordinary!
During the Palio dell’Oca in Cagli on 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13 August, the Sant’Emidio arena will transform into a true “Champs de Mars” where archers, crossbowmen, knights, and squires will showcase their skills. The four districts of the Marche village (Sant’Andrea, Sant’Agostino, Sant’Angelo, and San Francesco) will compete, rolling the dice to reach the 54th box. Along the way, there will be challenges and skill games to get to the coveted prize, a Goose, which will be awarded to the winner.
The historic centre of Cagli will come alive with activities and decorations, and the battlegrounds will be set up by the Balestrieri dell’Oca.
There will also be a dedicated area for children, featuring entertainment and traditional wooden games. Both young and old will be amazed as they wander through the village streets, encountering roaming artists who will be present in all four districts.
Over the years, the Palio dell’Oca has been enriched by the participation of the Compagnie d’Armi, who, together with the Paggi di Quartiere teams, make the Palio even more spectacular.
The ancient Renaissance challenges are faithfully recreated.
All the teams, archers, crossbowmen, and drummers represent a moment of history and theatre, wearing magnificent costumes inspired by Italian Renaissance paintings. The attire reflects the ancient beauty of the sixteenth-century art and is meticulously crafted in every detail.
Tickets for the event will be available online from 15 June!
